Return to Tiocom
Microsoft has come out with several versions of this program. The instructions
will vary slightly from version to version - but you should have all of the required
information by following the instructions here. You can tell which version of
Outlook Express you are using by starting the program and then from the menu on
top selecting "About Outlook Express." This will present you with a version number.
You can obtain the latest version of Outlook Express by downloading Microsoft
Internet Explorer, Outlook Express comes with the download of Internet Explorer.
You do this by going to http://www.microsoft.com/ie
Outlook is feature rich, free, and fully supported by Tiocom.
1. Start the Program Outlook Express
2. Select Tools
3. Select Accounts
4. Select Add
5. Select Mail
6. Type in a Display Name (such as John Smith)
7. Select "I already have an email address that I'd like to use"
8. Enter your email address (i.e : billy@yourgreatdomain.com)

11. For "Outgoing mail(SMTP)server:" enter one of the following
If you are dialed up or connecting to the Internet via Tiocom
(that is - if you are using an internet connection/dialup number
provided by Tiocom for your modem) enter "mail3.tio.com"
If you are dialed up through another provider such as AOL, Earthlink,
Pacbell or other provider you will need to enter the outgoing mail
or SMTP provider that they provide you with. This information is
most likely provided to you when you set up your account or by
contacting their technical support department.
The reason your outgoing mail server needs to be provided by the provider that
you are dialed up through is that because of problems with SPAM or junk email
most ISP's - including Tiocom - have been forced to limit access to mail servers
only to users that are dialed up through Tiocom's network. This prevents unauthorized
users from illegally setting their outgoing mail server to something like "mail.tio.com"
and relaying thousands of junk messages out though our servers. If you have problems
with obtaining or setting up your outbound mail server through your provider please
contact us at 949-498-8077. Your dialup internet access provider should be able
to supply you with the name of an outbound mail server that you can use to send
mail as long as you are dialed up through them.
12. When asked for "Account name:" enter "yourname%yourdomainname.com"
example : If your email address was john@happywidgets.com you would enter
your username as "john%happywidgets.com" in the Account name field.
13. Enter your password (your password is case sensitive - upper/lower case
does matter!)
14. Do NOT check the option "Log on use Secure Password Authenticaion (SPA)
15. Your mail has been set up. Now simply connect to the Internet, start
the Outlook Express program, and click on "Send and Receive" to check for and
send any mail messages you have in your Outbox.
If you have questions or problems please contact us at 949-498-8077. Or if you
have access to any type of email account you can email us at support@tio.com.
